Long-Term Care Ombudsman Office seeks AmeriCorps VISTA member

The Kansas Long-Term Care Ombudsman Office in Topeka, KS, is looking for an outgoing, self-motivated individual interested in serving as volunteer coordinator for our agency.  Our mission is to “advocate for the well-being, safety, and rights of Kansas long-term care residents by assisting them in attaining the highest possible quality of life”.  As the volunteer coordinator, the VISTA will develop a new Ombudsman Volunteer training manual and Instructor’s Guide; develop different methods for training, including classroom, one-on-one and videoconferencing;  develop and implement a statewide plan for recruiting new ombudsmen volunteers; develop supplementary ways that volunteers can support our program.  We are looking for someone who has postsecondary educational or work experience with non-profit organizations, social work, or grant-funded projects.  Interested applicants must be organized, have excellent time-management skills, and be able to communicate with a broad spectrum of individuals.  Qualified applicants must have experience with basic office equipment and be familiar with the following software programs: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and other specialized databases and programs.  Must be able to travel overnight within the State of Kansas. Valid Driver’s License is required.  Preference will be given to individuals with Gerontology and/or Social Work backgrounds.
